USB YAGI ANTENNA INVENTORS

USER MANUAL TO INSTALL THE ROUTER
(WRT54GL WITH DD-WRT FIRMWARE) IN REPEATER MODE

This is a new version of our user guide to set up the Combo Yagi / Router. The old version is still available here.
First thing to do: Connect to the router.
2 possibilities:
Then, type the routers address in your browser address bar:
To connect to the router the first time the router address is 192.168.14.1

If the router have been reset, or if the first address does not seem to work, then use the following address instead: 192.168.1.1
If you log for the first time a pop-up screen will appear asking to type your Username and Password (lower case).
Username:root
Password:admin
Sometimes the pop up screen appear the first time you click on a tab in the router’s menu (to change page)
In the Setup Menu of the router, click on the Setup Main Tab than Basic Setup tab, you will see a page similar to the next picture.
We strongly suggest to change the IP address for this one: 192.168.14.1 The reason why we ask to change this IP address is because most routers use the 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 so if you keep this address you will never be able to communicate with the distant router you try to reach.
So please change the IP address for the 192.168.14.1 and click save like you can see in the next picture. If the IP address was already 192.168.14.1 you don’t need to click save.
Now click on the Status Main Tab and on Wireless Tab. At the end of the page you will see a button called "Site Survey". Click on this one to scan for available networks.
You now see a list of available networks (In this example only 1 is visible but you can see several one depending of your area and the way you aim using the yagi antenna). Click on join for the network you want to use like the picture below.
In the site survey screen there a few useful information: "SSID" means the name of the network you try to reach, "Mode" need to be AP to be able to connect and if there Encryption the "Open column" will be set to NO.

This is the page you will see after you click the Join. Click on continue and you will be redirected to an other page.
The system automatically forward you to the Wireless Main tab and Basic Settings tab after you click Continue from the previous picture. This is where you set the router in repeater mode. Change the wireless mode from "CLIENT" to " REPEATER" and then click SAVE.
Now on the same page you have a new section called "Vitual Interface". This will be the name of your own network (after you reboot the router the Virtual Interface is the network name you will see through wireless and this is the one you need to connect to). Click add to create the Virtual interface.  If for any reason you don't want to broadcast the signal wirelessly (wire only) you can leave this part blank).
You can change the name of the network. No space or special character allowed. And then click save. Now the procedure differ if you need encryption key or not: If you don’t need to setup encryption key to connect to the distant wireless router (and to access your own network) you can now click "Apply Settings". The router will reboot and you will need to connect to your new network name using your wifi card (here: dd-wrt_vap ) If you are connected through wire you will automatically connect to the router after the reboot. If you need to set encryption key please continue to read this helpguide and don’t click "apply Settings" for now.
Apply Setting - Make sure the light flash in the front of the router when you use apply setting, sometime the router doesn't reboot properly.. If it did not reboot, you can go to "Administration" "Management" on top menu and use "Reboot router".
If you need to set encryption key you need to go in the Wireless Main Tab than Wireless Security Tab. The Physical Interface is the distant network you try to reach, change the encryption mode from Disable to the right encryption mode and click SAVE. If you want to create encryption for your own network you change the security mode in the Virtual Interface section and you click SAVE. It is very important to click save after the modification to the Physical Interface and after the modification to the Virtual Interface. Now everything is done, click on Apply setting and the router will reboot. You will need to connect to your new network name using your wifi card (here : dd-wrt_vap or any other network name you choose on the previous screen) and don’t forget to put the new encryption key for the virtual interface in your wifi manager if you create encryption code for the Virtual Interface. If you are connected through wire there no encryption key and you will automatically connect to the router so you are now ready to browse the internet.
